QC Inspector – Welding, NDT & Painting
Location: Qatar (site-based)
Contract Type: Project-based / Fixed-term
Work Pattern: Onsite (construction and fabrication environments)
Overview
An opportunity is available for experienced QC Inspectors specialising in welding, NDT, and coating/painting disciplines to support major oil and gas construction projects. The role involves conducting inspections, witnessing testing activities, and ensuring full compliance with project specifications, international standards, and quality management systems across fabrication and construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspection and surveillance of welding, NDT, heat treatment, and painting/coating activities
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, inspection and test plans, and approved procedures
- Witness qualification and testing of welding procedures, welders, NDT technicians, and coating systems
- Conduct in-process, stage, and final inspections of piping, structural, and pipeline works
- Review radiographic films and verify welding and repair activities
- Monitor daily fabrication activities and align inspections with approved schedules and RFIs
- Verify material traceability, consumables storage, and preservation compliance
- Ensure inspection, measuring, and test equipment is calibrated and fit for use
- Identify non-conformances and support corrective and preventive actions
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor quality performance and provide feedback to supervision teams
- Assist in review of quality documentation including method statements, inspection plans, and risk assessments
- Participate in quality walkthroughs and surveillance activities across site and fabrication yards
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality management system requirements
- Maintain effective communication with contractors, third parties, and project teams
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental requirements at all times
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years’ experience (degree holders) or 15 years’ experience (diploma holders) in oil and gas construction QA/QC roles
- Strong experience in welding, NDT, painting/coating, and heat treatment inspection activities
- Mandatory certifications:
- Senior Welding Inspector (CSWIP 3.2 or AWS-SCWI or equivalent)
- NDT Level II (RT, MT, UT, PT or equivalent international certification)
- Coating/painting inspector certification (BGAS Grade 2 or NACE Level 2 or equivalent)
- API certifications (e.g. API 570, API 936, RTRP or similar) are an advantage
- Strong knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, API, AWS, ISO, ASTM, NACE, SSPC, BS EN, etc.)
- Experience with welding of various materials including stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, and nickel-based alloys
- Experience in fabrication, pipeline, and process plant construction environments
- Ability to work independently in site-based conditions and manage inspection activities under pressure
- Strong attention to detail with good reporting and communication skills
